English: The operating principle of radar: A pulse of high frequency radio waves is emitted by the radar antenna and reflects from the surface of the target. The returning signal or "echo" is received by the radar antenna, and the round-trip travel time is measured. The distance to the target is proportional to the travel time. On the display shown the distance is proportional to how far the pulse is to the right on the display
